After giving birth to a healthy foal (s.Cardento) last Sunday morning, our Chin Chin mare started to show signs of not feeling too well. Since it appeared to become worse during the night, we brought her to the Lingehoeve clinic. There they established that giving birth to the foal had caused a part of the large intestine to be strangulated, resulting in colic. This is very rare to happen, cannot be prevented and is simply bad luck. The particular part of the intestine urgently needed to be removed , which required a long and difficult emergency surgery. However the days that followed the intestines did not regain to function fully anymore. With great grief we therefore had to decide to humanely euthanize our mare this Friday. We hope that the foal will survive and grow up normally.
